A Japanese sword is a single-edged curved blade, designed specifically for cutting (slashing) and is not suitable for chopping hard objects. A Japanese sword should always be kept in its scabbard (Saya) and stored horizontally on a dedicated sword rack, cabinet, or a locked display case. Regularly check the sword and scabbard for moisture and dryness, and apply a light layer of oil (such as mineral oil) on the blade as needed to prevent rust.
