The “Shihō-bishi” (四方菱) tsuba is a traditional iron sukashi tsuba featuring four interconnected diamond shapes arranged in perfect symmetry around the nakago-ana. The diamond motif has long been associated with resilience, prosperity, and order in Japanese decorative arts, while its balanced four-directional composition reflects the disciplined elegance and structural harmony valued by the samurai class.

Forged from iron and meticulously hand-finished, the openwork design creates a striking interplay of light and shadow that enhances the purity of its geometric form. Each opening is carefully cut and refined, producing clean lines and balanced proportions while maintaining the strength and practicality expected of a functional sword guard.

The surface is finished using a traditional ni-kuro shiage (煮黒仕上げ) black patination process, giving the iron a deep, understated sheen.
